Welcome to My Shitty Room

Come in, take a seat, can I offer you a coffee?

I was on my way to Durban. Usually I arrive at the airport early enough to frequent the business
lounge, have a cup of tea and a small bite before my flight.
On this very morning I was running late and only had a few minutes to spare before the flight. I decided to run to the loo, as one usually does before a flight. Only this time I was greeted by the janitor in the most inspiring and positive way - “Good morning Sir, welcome to my office, please enjoy your stay!” The experience was so out of the ordinary and remarkable that I could not help but smile and tip the janitor. Yes, you could argue that a tip was all he was after and yes it worked. The experience was so positive that it set me up for a good mood and a great day of travel and business.

So what did I learn from this?

Well there is a lot to take out, but in this two minute interaction I took the following:
  1. Be remarkable! What happened was so unexpected and out of the ordinary that it had a positive effect on my day and I related the story multiple times to probably hundreds of people. Isn't that a good way to sell a product?
  2. No matter how shitty your job is and no matter how shitty your office is, having a positive and pleasant attitude makes the difference. I bet the janitor on the other shift does not get nearly as many tips as this guy, and I bet this janitor won’t be a janitor for very long.
My Room.

And so welcome to my room. This is a room where anything goes, anything comes and anyone stays. There are no rules, it’s a private space to explore our thoughts on anything. Please don't take offence, my thoughts are just those - my thoughts.

If you like what I have to say leave a comment. If you don't like it, leave a comment.

Peace!
